Homemade Christmas Decorations {Feather Christmas Trees} | These simple and easy Christmas trees come together in a snap and are a super fun way to decorate!

We have a Christmas tree up!

Can I just ask one question?  How do mothers of toddlers have a tree up and maintain their sanity throughout the month of December??

I must have said, “Don’t touch that!” and “Put that back!” and some combination of the two 800 times yesterday.  At one point, it was “It’s okay sweetie, I’m not mad at you, but you can’t take all of the ornaments off the tree.”

The six year old isn’t much better.  He walked up to me, after being near the tree quietly with his sister for a suspicious amount of time and said, proudly, “Mom!  We organized the ornaments!!”  Each year the kids all get the same ornament in different variations (like a stuffed elephant, giraffe, and lion).  Sure enough, each branch contained a grouping of three ornaments.

The decorator in me died a little.

But my Christmas OCD aside, it is amazingly sweet to see how excited my kids are about Christmas.  To see their joy in putting each ornament on the tree.  To see them stare at the ornaments in amazement.  And to have them ask to take turns putting Elliot’s ornaments on the tree.

Leading up to decorating the tree, Gavin kept saying, “Mom!  I’m going to teach Quinny how to hang ornaments!”

As for other Christmas decor, I feel like I keep very slowly collecting it over the years.  I’m super cheap, so if it’s not something that I can find on clearance (like SUPER clearance) after the Christmas season, I don’t buy it.  I’m also super picky . . . so it means that my collection is growing very slowly.

So last year when I saw these white feather Christmas trees at Target, I thought, I could do that!  And I did.  But I made them all funky and fun. :)

This is a really simple project.  You need some feathers, a glue gun, and some styrofoam trees.  Though there are some great cardboard tree tutorials floating around Pinterest.  {Ignore the pins in this picture.  They totally didn’t work.}

Start at the bottom and just work your way around and up the tree layering.  I would just put the glue on the feather, because the heat of it might melt the styrofoam if applied directly.  And the great thing about hot glue is you don’t have to wait for it to dry, so you can put them up right away!
